WORTH SEEING

The qualities of the areas around Sulechów stem from its geographic location as well as from the history of the Lubuska Land. Apart from the beauty of nature, one can also see the remains of the history of the region, including settlements and unique monuments of folk, mainly sacral, architecture.

Międzyrzecz Fortification Region

The southern fragment of the primary line of defence of the Międzyrzecz Fortification Region is situated within the area of the forest district. Today, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region. The fortifications were built by Germans, preparing for the war with Poland. The fortifications were to be the line of defence of the eastern border of Germany. The line of defence structures included a number of channels, barrages and bunkers. The fortifications have been built between 1933 and 1943. They were called the Oder Square (Czworobok Odrzański) From the north it was based on the Warta river, From the west and south - on the Oder river, from the east - on the Obra river and the zone of lakes of Obra (pas jezior obrzańskich). The width of the fortifications was 80 km.

 

Historic parks

For centuries people have been creating parks around their domain - around large palaces and smaller manors. Many of those parks have survived. Most of them are located around manors and churches. The parks of unique natural and landscape qualities are entered into the register of historic parks kept by the provincial monument conservators. The parks are known for their beauty, collections of rare, often exotic, plant species, as well as old monumental trees.

In the Sulechów Forest District, there are seventeen parks registered by the provincial monument conservators.

 

Klenica and its vicinity

It's yet another place worth seeing. The small village in the commune of Bojadła (Zielona Góra County) is situated on the right bank of the central Oder, in the Kargowa Valley (Kotlina Kargowska).   Klenica lies on the verge of the Oder cutoff, where and old, primeval forest grows. The primeval forest was landmarked in the times of Radziwiłł Family. The place is called the Radziwiłł Tal - the Radziwiłł Valley.  An old, forgotten lane of plane trees planted by order of Princess Dorothea of Courland is located in the area. It is also a habitat of: black stork, ground squirrel, fallow deer, beaver and other protected species. Unbroken stillness and clean, natural environment allow the populations of these animals to grow.

Nature, many streams and reservoirs, monuments of architecture, rich history of the locality, its legends and traditions - all that make it a great place for development of tourism.

 

Cigacice

Cigacice is a village by the Oder with unique touristic and natural qualities. It lies in a picturesque landscape - on upland with a wonderful view at the bed of the Oder. the climate of Cigacice is beneficial for grapevines, cultivated in the area for a couple of centuries. Many animal and plant species occur in this neighbourhood.   In particular, birds enjoy very good breeding conditions around here.

In Cigacice, one can have a stroll along the river by the newly built promenade or take a rest at the local levee. The levee was an investment greatly improving the water tourism offer of Cigacice. The village has a rich history of river navigation on the Oder. A pivotal role in that history was played by the river port. For 13 years, an annual Flis Odrzański rafting event is organised.

To present the history and the monuments of Cigacice, a tourist and education trail has been created. The trail leads, among others, through bunkers form the World War II belonging to the Oderstellung line.
